Thursday 5th April 2012

It's only a few days until Ling and Shallen's wedding and between work and trying to organise things for the weekend, I have had to cut back on time spent in the kitchen cooking and I've been supplementing my diet with alot of take out for the past few weeks.

Subway's Ham and Turkey Sub for lunch today.

Chicken Treat's Roast Dinner.

Saturday 24th March 2012

I have discovered an awesome place for sushi at Westfield Carousel Shopping Centre - Sushi Sushi!

They have a great range of prepackaged sushi, sashimi and individual pieces and rolls. They look very fresh and you can see the sushi chefs making them behind the display. The prices aren't bad either!

ATRIUM BUFFET
Burswood Entertainment Complex

Tonight we went for dinner at the newly refurbished Atrium. Yes, it's been a while since they reopened but tonight is the first time for me to go since then. I have heard the revamped buffet is good and I have been really keen to try it!

Round One

Round Two

Round Three - Peking Duck (we shared these!)

We got one of every kind of dessert to share.

I have to say, we were rather disappointed with the sweets.
Nothing tasted great. The mousse was bland. The profiteroles weren't that great.
Not happy with the quality of the desserts at all!

We made ourselves a cheese platter to share.

Overall, loved the buffet. It's a pity that we could only get a reservation during the first seating so we felt really rushed. The staff began setting the tables for the next seating while we were still trying to just enjoy the rest of our wine. It was even worse when they started vacuuming around us. We understand that we need to be out by a certain time for the next dinner seating, but we all ended up in a massive queue to pay our bill when we could have enjoyed another fifteen minutes or so sipping our wine. Perhaps they should look into allowing people to settle their bills at the table so that they can just simply walk out of the restaurant when they're done.

Oh, and I broke out in hives later that night from all the prawns that I ate hee hee - when will I learn!?

Sunday 12th February 2012

This morning I woke up to the aroma of bacon. Lisa had breakfast ready for me! She's such a good wife.

Poached Eggs, Bacon & Toast

The fresh chives were a really nice touch!

We headed out in eager anticipation of catching heaps of crabs! We kayaked out into the estuary to drop some nets but even with bricks to weigh them down, the under current was too strong and we spent most of our time paddling after our nets to haul them back in.

We spent the next few hours trudging up and down the estuary with scoop nets but with no luck either. It was too early in the day. I caught an undersized one, which I threw back. And a dead one.

Downheartedly, we packed up the kayaks and headed in search for lunch. It was about five minutes to noon when we drove through the Macdonalds drive thru and we asked if we could get the $2 Quarter Pounder yet. The drive thru attendant told us that he wasn't allowed to serve them to us until after 12 noon. So, we each bought a 50c cone and parked in one of the car bays to eat them and then headed through the drive thru again after 12 noon.

$2 Quarter Pounders!

We headed home to Perth in the afternoon, crabless.

Friday 3rd February 2012

Aah, I do love a Quarter Pounder every now and then.

One of the girls finished her last day with us at work today so she brought in some goodies to put together a platter for us. Yum!

Friday 16th September 2011

We are driving down to Dunsborough for the weekend to celebrate Ivy's birthday.

On the way, we stopped in Mandurah for dinner.

Everyone got Hungry Jacks.

While Long and I opted for KFC from next door.

Which we ate in Hungry Jacks hee hee.

Wednesday 14th September 2011

I picked up Jesters for lunch today. I thought instead of having my usual 'Spud Deluxe' pie, that I would try a different one. The sound of the 'Very Peri' chicken pie was appealing.

I was so disappointed with the pie. It was like eating a pie filled with gluggy sauce. There was one large chunk of chicken in there that tasted dry. Very disappointing. I think every time I choose a pie other than the 'Spud Deluxe', I get a dud.

The lesson?

Order a 'Spud Deluxe' next time.

Supper on the way home from work KFC!

Saturday 10th September 2011

Upon arrival at work this morning, I was greeted some hotcakes from Maccas! I think it's been well over fifteen years since I last had their hotcakes. I much rather prefer to get hashbrowns for breakfast but I won't say no to a nice, hot breakfast.

I added the whipped butter and syrup and it was soooo good!

I went to IGA after work with the intent of finding a steak for dinner. Instead, I found a nicely french trimmed lamb shank and decided to make stew.

Look how clean the bone is!

I coated the shank in plain flour and sealed it in the pot with olive oil.

Garlic, onion, butter, potatoes, carrots, leek, rosemary and thyme.
I added some red wine, crushed tomatoes and brought it to the boil.

After two hours in the oven.

The meat on the shank shrank to one side! But oh so so tender!

I have always wanted to cook lentils and today I did. I googled how to prepare them, thinking that I would have to soak them before cooking. But no, simply rinse with cold water and then I cooked them with a bit of hot water until they were cooked. I like my lentil a little firm and not completely soggy.

The lentils went nicely with the lamb shank stew.

Monday 15th August 2011

Oh dear.

I have been eating on the run a bit lately and today I noticed that the floor of the passenger side of my car is littered with the various takeaway wrappers from the past few weeks.

Disgraceful!
