PADBURY'S CAFE RESTAURANT>
114 Terrace Road, Guildford

Today I had lunch with a friend. I like the interior decor of the place and the food was presented beautifully!

Taste Plate

Salt & Pepper Squid

Later in the afternoon, we went back to Cambot's place and he made dinner (while I caught up on Bold & the Beautiful!). He's been wanting to experiment with homemade pasta with squid ink for a while.

The dough!

We hung the pasta on the backs of chairs to dry.

entree - Squid Ink Linguine with Chilli & Garlic Prawns

main - Steak with Red Wine Gravy & Crispy Baked Rosemary Potatoes

Saturday 11th February 2012

This afternoon Lisa and I set out on a mini road trip down to Mandurah with a couple of kayaks on the roof rack. The plan was to catch us some crabs!

We went for a drive around and walked down the beach to watch the sunset.

We enjoyed a huge, delicious meal down at the local pub.

Lisa had the Barramundi.

While I had the Garlic Prawns as an entree...

and the Filet Mignon - gorgeous!!

GREENHOUSE
100 St. Georges Terrace, Perth CBD

After work I caught up with a friend at the Greenhouse. We went upstairs to have some drinks and unwind. It was such lovely weather and it was great to be out in the fresh air!

Something 'fresh and fruity' from the bar.

It was a pity we didn't have a view of the sun as it set, but as it got dark we got hungry and ordered some nibblies.

Potato Croquettes and Albany Rock Oysters 'el naturale'

The potato croquettes were delicious! However, the oysters were so incredibly salty. I was very disappointed and very worried that my lips would puff up from the saltiness. Very fortunate that they did not. I think the guy at the bar was rather insulted when I told him how salty the oysters were.

Deciding to move on, we took the train to Claisebrook and went to a supper club that I have always wanted to try.

DEVILLES PAD
Unit 1/3 Aberdeen Street, Perth

The interior was lit with a red light and it felt like we had wandered into a fancy dress 60s goth party. Being a 25+ venue, the crowd were mature and restrained. No drunken youngens being boisterous and loud. They had retro music playing and a fantastic, lively atmosphere. I would love to come back again!

We shared some Empiladas and Potato Wedges.

Gotta love spontaneity!

INGLEWOOD HOTEL
803 Beaufort Street, Mt Lawley

I love quiz nights but either I'm working late and can't make it to them or I just can't be bothered on a school night if I have to wake up early the next day for work. So, I don't go to them often but I do enjoy them when I do!

Hawaiin Pizza - $15

Wedges - $8.5

Inglewood Taste Plate - $35

We didn't come first, but we didn't come last either!

Sunday 27th March 2011

Today I visited Swan Valley with some friends for a lazy day of eating, drinking and laziness.

DUCKSTEIN BREWERY
9720 West Swan Road, Henley Brook

We started with lunch sitting outside in the lovely warm sunshine. The flies were annoying though!

Cameron had the Salmon with Potatoes & Asparagus

Lisa and I shard the Chicken Pizza with BBQ Sauce - $22.5

After lunch we hit a few wineries! The first one that caught our attention (or at least mine!) was one called the Ugly Duckling. Just as I thought, they are a new winery that opened recently and the couple running the place were very welcoming and friendly.

Lancaster is a favourite of ours!

When I go wine tasting, I am greatly influenced by how friendly the staff are. When we come across rude owners we usual do not stay long, nor buy anything. We have even walked straight back out once when we were rudely ignored and then told we must pay a fee to taste their wines.

We were not impressed with Houghton. The guy pouring us the wine to taste was aloof and not very keen to interest us in purchasing anything. We wandered into the restaurant area and I would love to return to have a light lunch and stay for the live entertainment, but we were not impressed today with that guy's attitude.

Suffice it to say, I am more willing to buying wine from someone who treats me with respect, warmth and friendliness. I'm not going to waste my money at a winery where the staff act like all you're wanting is a free drink.

The heritage gallery at Houghton.

With the afternoon really heating up, we sleepily wound our way to Guildford and we found somewhere to have some afternoon tea.

RIVERSIDE at WOODBRIDGE
8254 Ford Street, Woodbridge

The afternoon heat must have deterred other people from venturing out as there were only a few other tables occupied when we got there. This was fine as we were able to enjoy the tranquility of the river view in a sleepy trance without the usual hustle and bustle.

Soy Ice Chocolate with the Works! - $5.5

Scones with Jam & Cream - $3.5

What an awesome Sunday.

BALINGUP MEDIEVAL CARNIVALE
August 28th-29th 2010, Balingup WA

This weekend is the highly anticipated medieval carnivale in Balingup, about 3.5hrs drive south of Perth. I spent the past few weeks sewing my own costume so I was really excited about it! I wouldn't say I'm a huge medieval buff - certainly not as much as some of the people we met down there - but I do love to get dressed up and going to things that are a bit different.

We got up early and Noel drove us down. We checked into our motel room in Nannup (we were unable to find accommodation in Balingup so the closest was Nannup, about forty minutes drive away from Balingup), got changed into our medieval inspired attire and then made the drive to Balingup. The weather was beautifully warm and the road snaked through gorgeous green landscapes on both sides. A wonderful countryside drive.

Upon arrival, we went in search of lunch.

My medieval hot dog with mustard and tomato sauce!

After a few hours of roaming the grounds, we went in search of some shade to rest. We managed to find some grassy fields and all I wanted to do was lie down and have a nap. The sun was out in force and I think I got a bit of heatstroke.

Sarah bought us some fresh bread and goat bouche, which we all enjoyed as our afternoon snack. All that was missing was either a glass of wine or a cup of tea.

Back in Nannup in the early evening, we strolled down the single street that makes up the little town. There were a few cafes as well as the pub at the motel we were staying at. While we were standing around on the street, we saw one of the cafes opening their doors and putting up an 'open' sign. So, we headed there for a cup of coffee before dinner.

Soy Macchiato at the Nannup Bridge Cafe.

Back at the Nannup Hotel Motel, we entered the pub in our full medieval getup, which drew some amused glances from the locals who were there having a drink.

Sarah had the Chicken Parmagiana.

I had the Scotch Fillet with Mushroom Sauce.

The steak was at least an inch thick and it was cooked as I had requested it - medium rare. It was soooooooo good!! Soooo tender and the sauce was deliciously creamy. The waitress confirmed that the steak they serve is from a local farmer. I wish I had a supply of beef straight from a farm.

We spent the rest of the night in each other's company, drinking the various fruit liqueurs we bought from the medieval carnivale.

Sunday 8th August 2010

I'm very happy that I made the most of today. So...what did I get up to?

I went to Fremantle with some friends for lunch. It was good to sit outside, soak up some sunlight and get a good dose of vitamin D.

MAD MONK
33 South Terrace, Fremantle

The establishment's website seems to be down, so no link.

I really enjoy this place, however, today I was a bit disappointed with the service. We were promptly shown to a seat overlooking the cafe strip, but we were pretty much ignored after that. The waitress looking after our section never once glanced our way. She seemed unsure of what she was doing and was simply taking orders from other patrons who were able to grab her attention. Patrons who were seated after us. That is extremely annoying. I ended up having to go to the counter to ask for service. The staff member I approached was very apologetic and she quickly took our order and things were underway.

We shared a pizza,

a side of rosemary potato cubes

and those of us of legal age shared the beer sampler.

FREMANTLE MARKETS

Afterwards, we strolled through the markets. It was so very crowded.

Have you had your two fruits and five veg today?

Alot has changed in the markets since the last time I was there. Some stalls have moved location and there are also a number of new stalls. There was a seafood stall in the fresh food market and they were selling live marron.

These blue marron were $10 each.

Oh, how they remind me of Pinchy.

We stopped by a stall selling fresh roasted nuts. There was a delicious aroma and the friendly stall keeper offered us nuts to taste.

I bought some of the roasted chilli cashews.
They were soooo moreish!! Mum is sure to like them too.

I spent the rest of the afternoon at home tending to chores around the house.

I tidied my room and changed the sheets on the bed.

I cleaned the aquarium and introduced the new fish I bought on the way home from the markets.

I took Simba for a walk.

I cooked dinner.

What's for dinner?

Prawn Wan Tan Soup

Sometimes Mum makes wan tan dumplings and freezes them so we have a convenient supply when time is short to cook dinner.

I bought some enoki from the markets and was delighted to see a small little bunch sprouting out from the base of the enoki.

It's so cute!

Saturday 7th August 2010

I had a bit of a sleep in this morning, yanked back the covers and got ready to head out for what would turn out to be a full on day.

REGAL ON ROE SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
20 Roe Street, Northbridge

I've been here a few times and today I was especially pleased with the food. The way I judge the food at dim sum is based on two dishes.

The chicken feet and the steamed prawn dumplings.

Both were really good today! I was very happy. There was also no crowd of people outside waiting for a table. Usually this is a sign that the restaurant isn't so good, but I think it was just because we were a bit early. The tables around us filled pretty quickly within half an hour of us being there.

I love my chicken feet.

It just got better when we got to the counter to pay - it came out to only $12.50 per person.

We took a stroll through the city mall so I could get my watch battery replaced and we stopped for bubble tea at Easy Way.

I had the taro flavoured tea with sago. It was purple!!
I think I squealed when I saw it.

We drove into East Perth for a light lunch and coffee. I couldn't help smiling as I reminisced the day we kayaked from the Causeway to East Perth. Trekking into the cafe in our wet, sandy clothes and kayak oars. Good times.

THE ROYAL
60 Royal Street, East Perth

Ivy and Benoit shared the Rocky Road Chocolate Cheesecake.

I had the Chicken Liver, Pancetta & Brandy Parfait
with a Redcurrant & Port Glaze
and served with thinly sliced and toasted Turkish Bread - $10

The parfait was absolutely delicious!
I washed it down with a cool, crisp glass of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Testing out my 'macro' and 'infinity' modes on my camera.

Next, we drove to South Perth with the intention of having a coffee somewhere but when we parked the car, we were all suddenly hit with lethargy and just sat in the car for about half an hour. Resting.

We decided to call it a day, but as I was driving home, I thought it would be a waste of a drive to get home, only to have to drive back out again because I had dinner plans in South Perth. So, I changed directions and drove to Marissa's place and had a nice little catchup with her and Teresa.

THE WINDSOR HOTEL
128 Mill Point Road, South Perth

A few of the girls and I, from the lab I used to work in, caught up over dinner tonight. We were all eager to hear what's been going on in each other's lives. It honestly doesn't really feel like we've each gone our separate ways yet. It just feels as if we're on different shifts.

Wedges with Aioli, Sour Cream & Sweet Chilli Sauce - $9.5

Sourdough Garlic Bread - $8.5

Marcel Marceau - brie cheese, smoked bacon,
rosemary and garlic potato, fresh rocket - $22.5

No Bones - roast pumpkin, cashews, spinach,
roasted capsicum, feta, fresh basil and artichokes - $21.5

What an awesome night but it totally tipped me over my budget for this week!
