*raises her glass* "A toast: while most people eat to live, I live to eat. There's nothing like enjoying a delicious home-cooked meal with a fine bottle of wine in the company of fantastic friends. To life!"

I bought the marrows from my local fruit and veg store and Nadine set to work removing the insides with some specialised tools. They're similar to apple corers except the metal bit that goes into the apple is more slender and longer. I need to find me some of these tools!

Once the insides are all removed, we made the stuffing. We panfried some good quality beef mince until it was just cooked with a dash of olive oil and some of Nadine's Mum's special blend of spices. We added the beef to some rice that had been washed and rinsed.
We arranged the stuffed marrows into a heavy set pot, poured in some chicken stock and placed some slices of fresh tomato in. We slowly boiled them with the lid on for about an hour (I think!) until the marrows were done and the rice was cooked and beginning to spill out from the cavities in the marrows.

I prepared two dishes last night in advance. I wanted to make the green papaya salad, so I searched for the grater that Dad bought from Thailand to use to grate the papaya into julienne strips. Much more efficient that slicing it into strips like I had to do last time I made this dish!

We had donuts, which we all polished off for dessert. In keeping with our Thai theme, we joked that they're either Thai donuts, from a Thai bakery, or made by Thai people.

For only $50, it was rather great value for money this year. We had a drinks package including wines, bubbly and a few beers. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a plate of prawns and antipasto. It didn't take us long to polish these off!

That's right, by 4:30 the wine is poured, the snacks are out and we're drowning out the week by chilling out.
I brought some figs stuffed with Drambuie and mascarpone and apricots stuffed with Cointreau and mascarpone.

Dinner was followed by dancing the night away with friends at the Sapphire Bar in Subiaco.
