NINE FINE FOOD
227 Bulwer Street, Highgate

Tonight we celebrated Dad's birthday with dinner. I've been here many many years ago and remember enjoying the food so I was hoping tonight I wouldn't be disappointed. Jocelyn has eaten here quite recently and loves it so my hopes are high!

We had the three course set menu for $53 - great value!

Dad really liked the Osumashi Seafood Soup for his entree.

I had the Sashimi.

For my main course I had the Duck Violet. Yummy!

Green Tea Creme Brulee for dessert!

I didn't realise that the restaurant is BYO only, so although the food was fantastic, it just didn't feel right not having a few glasses of wine to go with the food. I'll have to remember to bring some wine when I return on the weekend for Ling's birthday! Yes, I'm coming here for dinner twice in the one week. Just as well that the food is so brilliant - I can try more things on the menu!

Wednesday 25th January 2012

Oh dear, I have really really really fallen behind on my posting! I've been so busy with work and housekeeping that the last thing I want to do when I get home and is turn the laptop on!

WEDNESDAY WORK LUNCH

Today we put together some platters at work.

Tonight Dad, Jocelyn and David came over for dinner to ring in the Chinese New Year.

Lo Hei for the second time this week!

Jocelyn cooked a Thai Red Duck Curry...with fruit!

I was a bit skeptical when she put in the grapes and lychees, but it did taste good!

I made a crappy som tam (green papaya salad) because I didn't have all the ingredients.

Friday 26th August 2011

Last night we went out for dinner to celebrate Jocelyn and David's birthdays.

HAWKERS CUISINE
66 Roe Street, Northbridge

We'd all been hard at work during the day so we needed some Kopi-O to wake us up.

We had the Jellyfish to start with.
It tasted like Mum's Achar. Yum!

Jocelyn had the Hot and Sour Soup.

Jocelyn ordered and, as usual, she ordered far too much food for us!

Sambal Kang Kong

I don't remember the name but this Pork dish was awesome!

Oatmeal(??) Prawns

Marmite Chicken

Steamed Dhufish

Tofu

This beef dish was a let down compared to the other dishes.

We shared an Ice Kachang for dessert.

We divvied up the leftovers between us in five takeaway containers, which I had for lunch today at work.

Sunday 3rd July 2011

We went to Jocelyn's place for dinner tonight. She was making beef stew using her new slow cooker. It was a coincidence that I made beef stew last night and she was making it tonight.

It was good! She cooked it for seven hours and the meat was very tender.

She also made chocolate brownies. Very nice with a cup of coffee!

Sunday 8th May 2011

Each year for Mother's Day it's the same thing. We ask Mum if she wants to go out somewhere for lunch or dinner. Dim sum? Coffee and cake?

Each year she replies that it's too much bother and she either can't be bothered or she doesn't want us to spend the money.

However, if we decide not to do anything, she will later ask 'Oh, so we're not going out for dinner then?'

For the past few years we just get some takeout and eat at home.

Jocelyn and David picked up some really good Chinese takeaway from somewhere in Morley.

Prawns with Vegetables and Cashews

Char Siew Pork

Roast Pork

Roast Duck

No Asian dinner is complete without some Vegetables.

The pork crackling was superb.

Wednesday 29th December 2010

For working the Christmas period, work bought me these flowers. I think is the second bunch of roses I have ever received in my life. I love the large yellow ones. Most of them were still buds so I'm looking forward to them opening up during the week.

Lunch
Mum's Wantan Soup

FITZGERALD CHINESE RESTAURANT
388 Fitzgerald Street, Northbridge

We went out for dinner tonight to celebrate Mum's birthday. Jocelyn chose this restaurant because she's been there before and says that they do an awesome Peking Duck dish.

That's what we started with - Peking Duck. The service was a class above the usual Chinese restaurant. Instead of just dumping the plates onto the table, the staff prepared the crepes on the table next to ours.

The pieces of duck had a generous amount of meat, which we were all really delighted with. I love the crispy duck skin.

They also prepared the Sang Choy Bao in this manner too. They scooped the meat mixture into the lettuce leaf and then passed them over to us. A bit messy to eat but they were tasty little starters!

Egg Yolk Prawns

Black Pepper Beef

Tooth Fish and Shallot Claypot

Garlic Kai Lan

Cashew Chicken in a Noodle Basket

I was in awe of this deep fried noodle basket - shaped like a gorgeous flower!

We shared dessert afterwards.

I haven't had Deep Fried Ice Cream for over ten years!

Banana Fritter & Ice Cream

I have to say, I was rather heppy with the service and the food at this restaurant. I may have to take my Peking Duck loving friends here one day!
