An Ikea hotdog for $1 afterwards!

Recently, I came across this image on the internet when googling what 'fo shizzle mah nizzle' meant in everyday English.

BIRTHDAY DIM SUM WITH LISA

We celebrated Lisa's birthday this year with dim sum at Dragon Palace. It's Lisa's second time ever at dim sum and she's enjoying it! However, I don't think we can convince her to try the delicious chicken feet anytime soon!

We ordered the rice flour rolls with prawns - it took over an hour to get them!

Drinks at the Royal afterwards!

I had sooooo much presoaked bee hoon leftover from steamboat last night so I fried it up with some cabbage, carrot and bacon. Yum!

Supper
Hokkien Noodles with Seafood

I'm having a little party tomorrow night despite having to work all day so I thought I'd better do as much preparation tonight as I could. Here is the recipe for Alice's awesome oyster roll that she brought to my High Tea recently.

OYSTER ROLL

Ingredients:
  • 3 x tins smoked oysters
  • A squeeze of lemon juice
  • 250g Philadelphia Cream Cheese
  • 1 Tbn chives, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbn parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped

    Method:
    1. Roll the cheese out between two sheets of aluminium foil to about the size of an A4 sheet of paper.

    2. Remove the top sheet of foil.
    3. In a bowl, drain the oysters and mash with a fork.
    4. To the oysters, add the lemon juice, chives, parsley and onion. Mix.

    5. Place the oyster mixture along one end of the sheet of cheese and roll it up like a sausage roll.
    6. Score the top of the roll or garnish with some parsley and chives.

I had some leftover beef mince mixture from the Burger Night that I had last week and so I shaped little meatballs out of it and put them into the freezer. I used them to make some pasta today.

    Penne with Beef Mince

We have been accumulating bread in our freezer at work. So, Ian bought some ham, I bought some tomatoes and cheese and we had toasties for our work lunch today.

    Cheddar Cheese

The Brie toasties were soooo good!

Time for some comforting homecooking as the weather gets colder. Nice and easy meals to cook and great to eat in bed!

    Chicken & Sweet Corn Soup

Hokkien Noodles with Sliced Fish Cake

    Friday 18th March 2011

I bought some chicken 'lovely legs' from the supermarket yesterday. They're basically just the drumstick piece but with the skin and lower part of the bone removed. They're great for casseroles but I would only buy them if they're on special because you can trim the skin off yourself.

    Lunch
    Chicken & Pasta Soup
with garlic, onion, celery, leek, carrots and rosemary.

Bowl food does not get better than this! I love to melt lots of grated pecorino into the soup. And lots of chillies - bring on the endorphins rush!

    Tuesday 8th February 2011

I’m in the process of emptying out the fridge of all fresh ingredients, so today for lunch was another salad of baby cos, roma tomato, a boiled egg and a small can of tuna.

Tonight I had some friends over and made a big pot of my bun bo hue soup. In our hunger, I forgot to take photos until after everyone had made up their bowls of noodles, sliced pork belly, beef balls, bean sprouts, sliced onion and fresh mint.

While slicing the pork belly, I noticed a few teats on the skin. tee hee

For dessert, we had a Sara Lee Cookies & Cream Bavarian Cheesecake that Kok brought over. Ling was in the mood for an affogato but since I didn’t have any ice cream, I made him one with a slice of the cheesecake!

    Friday 4th February 2011

I'm off on holidays overseas next week so I need to make sure I've emptied the fridge of all the perishables. So, what can I do with some limp celery, a carrot, several mushrooms, cabbage and some baby corn spears?

Hokkien Noodles with sliced Fish Cake

    Wednesday 12th January 2011

This morning I dragged myself out of bed at 4:20am to go crabbing at a jetty in Mosman Bay somewhere with a friend. I would have preferred to have gone to Mandurah where we would have been guaranteed to get crabs, but this place was closer.

We used some gorgeous snapper head that Lisa's hubby would
have preferred to make a fish head curry with.

    We caught nothing. =/

Oh, except several trumpeters and a blowie.

I went home, showered and slept until the early afternoon. My stomach finally woke me up and I had to make dinner.

and lots of Mum's fried chilli paste

    Friday 7th January 2011

    Brunch
Pane Di Casa Vienna with diced Roma Tomatoes, Bocconcini & Basil

At work tonight, one of the cleaning ladies dropped off a surprise for me - a mini pavlova. I enjoyed it with a cup of tea. The meringue was deliciously smooth and overall it was soooo good! Just the right amount of sweetness.

    Supper
Thai Basil Pork & Glass Vermicelli Stirfry

For a bit of indulgence, I enjoyed this Drambuie and Mascarpone filled Fig.

    Tuesday 4th January 2011

    Dinner
Spicy Bee Hoon Soup with Bean Curd & Seafood

    Sunday 19th December 2010

I made a bowl of Easy Mac for breakfast at work this morning. I love macaroni and cheese! I know it's strange, but the Easy Mac that comes in the plastic sachets tastes better than when you get the ones in the plastic cups.

    Dinner
    Seafood Laksa

In the bowl, I added the bean sprouts and kang kong. They will cook when I add the hot soup.

    Tuesday 9th November 2010

A while ago I went with Mum into the city to run an errand and we went for a late lunch at Shimizu in Harbour Town.

I ordered the udon hot pot for Mum.

For myself, I had the eel bento set.

Mum's udon looked tasty but I was disappointed with my eel. It had been zapped in the microwave for too long - the edges were all dried up. The sauce was really salty. The bento looked likt it had been put together rather clumsily.

I spent most of the day in bed today with a migraine. I hate migraines. All you can really do is sleep it off. Yet after spending all day in bed, you don't really want to go back to bed when you're supposed to. The only thing I find therapeutic is busying myself in the kitchen.

Seafood laksa for dinner at home!

    Friday 5th November 2010

    Lunch
    Pork Roll with Hot Chips

Yes, I had a craving for hot chips straight out of the oven. Crispy golden chunks of potato. What's not to love?

I made the roll from a white knot roll from Bakers Delight, sliced fresh tomato and mayonnaise.

When I made laksa last night for dinner, I made alot of it to cater for everyone at work for lunch today.

I portioned the noodles up into plastic takeaway containers, then added some seafood that I poached in the laksa soup.

I ladled in the laksa soup when it had cooled down a bit.

I stacked them all into an esky and brought it to work with some fresh mint and bean sprouts.

For dessert, I made Almond Jelly with Fruit Salad (the canned variety).

    Dinner
Sambal Kang Kong with Prawns and Squid

I poached the prawns and squid in the laksa soup last night. Yum!
