WORK LUNCH - INDIAN TAKE AWAY

Rucha recommended we get takeout from the King of Taste Indian Restaurant in Leederville. She ordered over the phone and had the food delivered to us - free of charge!

The curries were absolutely delicious! A pity there wasn't enough meat in them...but we mopped up all the sauces with the pappadums and naan.

I also made a Cauliflower and Paneer Curry to include some vegetables at lunch time!

We need to go to an Indian restaurant that does buffet...

Friday 25th May 2012

Tonight I had some help preparing for my big birthday bash tomorrow night.

We made lolly bags!

Lots of vodka jelly shots!

And had dinner.

Friday 6th April 2012

Take out for dinner again tonight!

We ordered from Bamboo in Willetton and I went to pick it up. This is the first time I have been disappointed with their food. I ordered the seafood laksa and I wanted the thick rice noodles or the yellow egg noodles but they told me over the phone that they have neither. So, I thought I'd just go with whatever noodles they put in there.

The noodles were all dry...there wasn't enough soup even though it was packed in a separate container. The noodles just sucked it all up as soon as I poured the soup over them. It was like eating laksa with bee hoon. Not happy, Jan!

Wednesday 21st March 2012

I have had a craving for char siew for a while now, so tonight after work I stopped by Bamboo on Collins Road in Willetton and got some. I went home, put the rice cooker on, had a shower and curled up on the couch to have dinner infront of the TV.

Tuesday 21st June 2011

After an errand in the city, I caught up with Jocelyn for lunch. She took me to the Enex100 food court on Hay Street.

Seafood Curry Laksa - $11.50

As expected, the food is rather overpriced but my laksa was good! It took alot of will power to stop myself from drinking all the soup in the bowl.

I stopped by Jocelyn's place on the way home from work and she had gotten some takeaway for my supper.

Spicy Vietnamese Beef Noodles

I was delighted to see they included a huge chunk of delicious liver.

Lots of fresh mint to garnish.

Tuesday 7th June 2011

I went to the Emergency Room at Royal Perth Hospital this morning with a sore eye. After waiting in the triage room for an hour and a half, my stomach was grumbling and I had to seek food. The resident who performed my initial review was kind enough to get a third year medical student to get me some lunch! I assume it was from the staff canteen or something.

A sandwich, fruit, cheese and crackers.

I gobbled it up just in time before they sent me upstairs to the eye clinic.

At work in the evening, I scored some free dinner from next door in the seminar room.

Mushroom Tortellini

Saturday 22nd May 2011

On the way to work this morning I picked up some breakfast for the girls! If we have to work on a Saturday, we should at least indulge in a good breakfast! We recently discovered that Dome do breakfast to go. Woo!

Bacon & Egg Toasted Baguette from Dome

We all gobbled up half of the baguette each and were too full to eat the other half...next time we will have to share!

POT LUCK DINNER AT KONG'S

I didn't know what I was going to make but saw the seafood van parked near UWA on Stirling Highway so I bought some crabs.

Chilli Crabs

Kong heated some Man Tao in the microwave

The man tao opened up so I made a little crab man tao burger!

Yen Chen made a deliciously spicy Creole Rice

Aaah...I was craving some good Pasta - courtesy of Ling and Shallen

Our wonderful host, Kong, made Lasagna!

We all rolled into the karaoke room afterwards!

Saturday 14th May 2011

After half a day at work, I had to rush over to the house to get as much painting done before the sun went down. I really couldn't be bothered cooking dinner so I made a detour on the way home and picked up some food from Spencer Village.

Number 16 from Miss Saigon - extra hot

The spicy soup is packed separately to the noodles and beef. I didn't realise I had gotten some of the oil from the soup on my hand and rubbed my eye. Aaargh!

Sunday 8th May 2011

Each year for Mother's Day it's the same thing. We ask Mum if she wants to go out somewhere for lunch or dinner. Dim sum? Coffee and cake?

Each year she replies that it's too much bother and she either can't be bothered or she doesn't want us to spend the money.

However, if we decide not to do anything, she will later ask 'Oh, so we're not going out for dinner then?'

For the past few years we just get some takeout and eat at home.

Jocelyn and David picked up some really good Chinese takeaway from somewhere in Morley.

Prawns with Vegetables and Cashews

Char Siew Pork

Roast Pork

Roast Duck

No Asian dinner is complete without some Vegetables.

The pork crackling was superb.

EUROPEAN FOODS WHOLESALERS
93 - 101 Aberdeen Street, Northbridge

Today I went to European Foods Wholesalers for the very first time with Marissa and Teresa. As the name suggests, it's like a warehouse with all kinds of European imported goods that you can buy. The downside is that you have to buy it in wholesale quantities, which usually means at least two or three of each item if they're under 500g each. That's one of the reasons I haven't been sooner. I was planning a day when I could go with Marissa and Teresa so we could help each other out with purchasing multiple items.

Coffee beans being roasted on site.

This aisle was packed full of pasta!

This is a five kilo bag of pasta!!

Cold meats in the cold room.

I braved the cold to check out all the cheeses.

A trolley full of dried fish.

I left with organic butter, cling wrap, crushed tomatoes, canned baby clams, dried forest mushrooms, pearl cous cous and coffee liqueurs. That should last me a while!

Back at Marissa's, we grabbed a quick lunch of leftover gnocci, fresh Turkish bread and Mr Pelle's homemade chorizo. Yum, yum, yum.

Vernon and Victoria came over for dinner tonight. I had every intention on cooking dinner but was easily persuaded to opt for KFC instead. We got the Family Feast with hot'n'spicy chicken. I love the drumsticks!

After dinner, Victoria helped me with an experiment. I've made creme brulee several times (each of them a delightful success) but tonight I wanted to make pandan flavoured ones.

I used a basic recipe for the creme brulee and added in some pandan flavour paste.

Look how green the mixture was!

Adding the warmed up double cream.

Ready to go into the oven.

Just out of the oven - nicely set!

You're supposed to allow the creme brulee to spend at least a few hours in the fridge or over night to set. We didn't have time so we let them cool down until the ramekins were cool enough to handle without oven mitts.

Using my blow torch, we flamed some sugar over the tops.

Served with fresh strawberries.

Because they didn't spend any time in the fridge, the creme brulees were rather runny but they tasted fantastic! I love the shell of melted, caramelised sugar.
