After a few very busy weeks with the baby showers to organise and throw, I spent the day unwinding and getting some errands done. Nothing too complicated was on the menu either.

I attempted stuffing eggplants with fish paste again tonight. Instead of using the larger eggplants, I bought baby eggplants. Ling brought his sandwich toaster and browned them a bit before we put them in the soup.
The green tea and mixed berry were awesome! However, the lemon sorbet was a failure. I don't know whether it was because the proportion of ingredients wasn't right, or perhaps the orange juice (yes, the recipe called for orange juice as well as lemon juice!) we used was too bitter. The sorbet tasted like grapefruit!!
It tasted okay though - reminding us of the palate cleanser sorbets you usually get in fine dining restaurants between courses.
We had left over quail eggs so Ling got out the master stock and we boiled them - it was similar to a bah ku teh stock. Delicious! The aroma that filled the kitchen was divine!!

Tonight we had dinner at Shallen and Ling's place. They bought pizzas from CRUST to try.

Too bad they don't have those little plastic things to stop the lid of the box from sticking to the pizza topping!

We also had various takeout.

I made Fried Rice.

This is my first attempt at making Dhal...
it wasn't bad but I need to play around with the spices more.

Today at work we decided to use up all the various types of ice cream in the freezer to clear out some space. There was Ian's mango ice cream, Ian's raspberry and vanilla ice cream, and about a quarter of a tub of shop bought Neopolitan ice cream.
We started scooping out the ice cream into cups and I peered into my locker to see what we could serve with it.
I found a banana, which I peeled and sliced.
I also found some dark chocolate, which we melted in the microwave and drizzled over the top - our own ice magic!
At the last minute I remembered a Flake chocolate bar I had in the freezer and we crumbled that up and scattered it over our sundaes.

How awesome is that!?

Many people ask this question after Christmas.
What to do with the ham bone?
The ham that Benoit and Ivy brought for our Christmas lunch was huge! I thought I might be eating it for the week to come but as I carved it, people ate it. I managed to get most of the meat off the bone and what was not eaten I distributed to people to take home. I kept the bone.
So, the answer to my question?
Make soup!

I woke up early this morning and made a phone call to the Rose Heritage Garden in Carmel. I wanted to check that it would be okay for us to have coffee there and bring my neighbour's dog along. The girl on the phone assured me that it was okay and so we made the drive out there.I was eagerly anticipating the gorgeous flowers that would be in blood. The gardens did not disappoint. The place was still very quiet as it was rather early. I went inside to check if they had assigned a table for us but then the gardener (who turns out to be the owner) told us that we couldn't have our dog there. Apparently someone's dog had attacked another dog not long ago and since then the council had removed permission for them to have animals on the premises. Understandable, but it really annoyed me that I had taken the trouble to call up ahead to check and had been given the wrong information. We were all a little stressed but had no choice other than to quickly drink our coffees and then head off.
Not happy, Jan.
I brought along all the leftovers from last night's BBQ and we had a wonderful lunch today!

I was really naughty tonight. I wanted a snack but couldn't find anything in the pantry that I felt like eating.
I remembered I had some fish paste left in the fridge from making yong tau foo earlier, so I pulled out a few pieces of wholemeal bread, spread the fish paste on, sprinkled on some sesame seeds and pan fried them for a few minutes.

I remembered how good they were when
Kong made them for a dinner we had one night.

They were just as good tonight.

Dinner at work tonight was this fish fillet I found in the freezer. I had also prepared it with some sambal belachan and coconut milk and wrapped it in baking paper and foil, ready to pop into the oven.I had it with a salad of baby spinach, asparagus and beetroot. An odd combination, yes, but I'm trying to eat some fresh vegetables and also attempt to clear out the freezer to make room for more food!

I had some leftover beef mince mixture from the Burger Night that I had last week and so I shaped little meatballs out of it and put them into the freezer. I used them to make some pasta today.

We have been accumulating bread in our freezer at work. So, Ian bought some ham, I bought some tomatoes and cheese and we had toasties for our work lunch today.

The Brie toasties were soooo good!

On the weekend I made Garlic & Chilli Prawns and kept the oil that was infused with all the delicious garlic, chilli and prawn flavours. Tonight I cooked some penne and tossed it through the oil with some prawns.

Roasted Honey & Soy Chicken with Garlic Beans & Rice
Whenever I roast chicken, I usually roast two pieces so I can have one the next day at work.
I was so tired after work today. I had to run around for a few hours to carry out some errands for the house so when I got home, I ate...

...and then I napped. I got up to make a late dinner. Our theme for lunch at work tomorrow is curry so I suggested that everyone cook curry for dinner tonight and then take the leftovers to work tomorrow. Curry always tastes better the next day anyways!

A few nights ago I went to Ling and Shallen's place for a roast chicken dinner. There was a gorgeous amount of delicious juices left in the baking dish and I took some home with me.

In the fridge, the juices had solidified so I simple shook the container around and watched the juices separate from the fat.

I dissolved it in some boiling water - this will be the stock for my risotto dish!

I rehydrated a mix of 'forest mushrooms' and finely chopped them.
