Grill'd
669 Beaufort Street, Mt Lawley

Jocelyn and David took us out for lunch today. Free burger vouchers! Woo!

Mum's burger - not sure what she had but she ate it all!

Christina and I shared the 'HOT' MAMA burger.
Grilled 100% lean beef, roasted peppers,
dill pickle, tasty cheese, tzatziki, salad & harissa paste

The burgers were tasty and definitely made with good quality ingredients, but I still find it hard to fork out more than $5 for a burger. I'd rather make them at home for a fraction of that price!

Hot Chips!

Our work Christmas do was in the afternoon and I brought Stuffed Spuds and Garlic Prawns.

After everyone else had left for the night, a few of us went for a coffee at the Theobroma Chocolate Lounge at the Waterford Plaza. I wish this place was around when I was at uni! The coffees were really good!

Lunch at Work
Roast Chicken with Cous Cous

Dinner
Instant Ramen with shredded Poached Chicken

Mum had poached a whole chicken to make stock. I love the juicy chicken flesh when she cooks it this way. Especially the skin!

Mum's Shark Fin Soup

After dinner I popped over to Marissa's for a catchup over some coffee and baked goodies.

Monday 21st March 2011

I seem to have a strange collection of things in my fridge at the moment. Last night it took me a while to throw together a salad to bring to work for lunch today. This is what I came up with:

Lunch at Work
Fig, Blueberry & Rocket Salad
with Almonds and a White Balsamic Dressing

Yes, it was more like a fruit salad! It's been difficult to find nice, fresh figs while they've been in season. Either they're too expensive or affordable but over ripe and split open or growing mold. I finally found a couple that I thought were nice but one was good (the one you see in the photo) and the other was bad when I cut it in half.

For dinner, I thawed some fish fillets. I layered slices of fresh tomato, coriander, a generous spoon of sambal belachan and the fish on some baking paper and baked it for about fifteen minutes all wrapped up.

Dinner
Baked Fish with Sambal, Coriander & Tomato
with a side of steamed Baby Corn Spears & Asparagus

I met with some girlfriends for coffee after dinner - it was too hot for a coffee so I had something cold instead.

Soy Ice Coffee with the Works!

Tuesday 8th February 2011

I’m in the process of emptying out the fridge of all fresh ingredients, so today for lunch was another salad of baby cos, roma tomato, a boiled egg and a small can of tuna.

Tonight I had some friends over and made a big pot of my bun bo hue soup. In our hunger, I forgot to take photos until after everyone had made up their bowls of noodles, sliced pork belly, beef balls, bean sprouts, sliced onion and fresh mint.

While slicing the pork belly, I noticed a few teats on the skin. tee hee

For dessert, we had a Sara Lee Cookies & Cream Bavarian Cheesecake that Kok brought over. Ling was in the mood for an affogato but since I didn’t have any ice cream, I made him one with a slice of the cheesecake!

DELIZIOSO CAFE
Shop P141 Hay Street Mall, Perth CBD (above Carillon Arcade)

I must have looked at the wrong page in my diary because I showed up at work early. About four hours too early. So, I took the CAT bus into the city and wandered around in search of somewhere for breakfast. This place appealed to me because I was able to sit out on the balcony and watch people below.

I was greeted with a smile in my soy macchiato.
What an awesome start to the day.

Toasted Turkish Bread with Bacon, Egg & Tomato - $5.7

Oh my, this was sooo good! What an awesome idea for breakfast!! This is definitely worth recreating on our next weekend roadtrip.

TAKA'S KITCHEN
Shop 5 & 6 Shafto Lane, 347-417 Murray Street, Perth CBD

I had lunch with Kong before heading to work.

Assorted Sashimi

The sashimi is no where near as good as EDO's but it's edible. However, there was a piece of squid sashimi and I almost gagged on it. It was chewy, slimy and rubbery. Really gross.

Dinner at Work
Last night's Lamb

REGAL ON ROE SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
20 Roe Street, Northbridge

This morning we had a great turnout for dim sum!

We ordered three or four of everything!

At home in the early afternoon I was in dire need of a coffee. I couldn't wait to try out my new purchase from Ebay.

'Coffee Duck' reusable capsules for Nespresso.

Following the instructions (that are conveniently in English!), I rinsed the capsules in warm soapy water, dried them and then filled them with some ground coffee.

Into the Nespresso - Success!

Time to leave some positive feedback on Ebay!

After dim sum, I picked up some little treats from an Asian bakery on William Street. A little mini berry tart and a mini fruit tart. Perfect little morsels to accompany my expresso.

Dinner
Scotch Steak with Prawns in a Garlic & Saffron Cream
Roasted Potatoes and Steamed Asparagus

The sauce is from dinner last night. I thickened it up by adding more cream. Oh my - it was divine! I licked up every bit of my plate.

Thursday 21st October 2010

For lunch, I pulled out a Homebrand meat pie from the freezer.

I have been eating Mrs Mac's frozen pies but I thought I'd give this Homebrand one a try. It is cheaper, afterall. I don't mind going for a cheaper option if it tastes good.

It was good!

A few weeks ago I made a purchase on Ebay for some blank Nespresso capsules. You can fill them with any ground coffee and use them in the Nespresso appliance.

I tried them on the weekend. I felt like I was running an illegal operation. Carefully filling each capsule with ground coffee, being careful not to make a mess.

Peel the paper off the rim of the capsule to expose the adhesive.

Apply a piece of foil onto the top of the capsule.

The capsules is ready to use!

I was a bit anxious about using the capsule for the first time. I was worried that if the foil wasn't strong enough when the capsule was punctured, I'd end up with coffee grounds throughout the Nespresso machine and it might ruin it.

Deep breath.

Here goes...pop it into the Nespresso appliance.

Hurrah! It worked!

It makes a nice coffee.

ROSE HERITAGE CAFE
40 Masonmill Road, Carmel

Since we hit spring, I have been itching to go here to see the flowers that would be in bloom and enjoy the fresh - albeit pollen-ridden - air and sunshine.

We each ordered the Melville sparkling 'rose-ade' - $6.2

I love that they incorporate rose petals into the ice blocks. The drink is so refreshing and so very very pretty to look at.

Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon - $16.5
Served on a toasted English muffin and topped with
crisp baby spinach, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.

Lots of gooey yolk!

Teresa had to wait about another ten minutes after ours were served and then she found that her eggs were undercooked. She sent it back and we were all disappointed to find that the kitchen simple microwaved the eggs and added more sauce over the top. Despite this, we still all enjoyed our breakfast. I think we were all too taken with the relaxing, warm atmosphere and gorgeous surroundings to really dwell on the bad points of the breakfast.

While we were waiting for our coffee and cake to arrive, I saw a creature dart across the ground. It came from inside the cafe, from where the kitchen is situated. My jaw dropped and I was literally speechless. All I could do was gape at the creature, incredulously, thinking it was a giant rat! The couple at the table beside me caught my stunned expression and looked themselves and were also quite surprised and caught off guard. The creature crawled around under our tables, nimbly searching out crumbs beneath the tables. When the waitress brought out our cake, I asked her what the creature was, still thinking it couldn't possibly be a giant rat. She told us it was a bandicoot. A bandicoot! I didn't know we had them in Australia!

OOoh the cakes were really good! We made sure to choose from the fresh arrivals we had seen the staff putting away when we got there.

Lemon Meringue Pie

Berry Tart

Very disappointing to find my soy macchiato was curdled.

It was a pity Marissa had to leave us to go to work but Teresa and I went to the Boatshed Markets in Cottesloe. I have heard of this place, in particular from radio advertisements, but never been. I was like a kid in a candy store the second we stepped foot into the place.

Foodie heaven.

I oohed and aahed my way through the store, stopping for an extra long moment in the cheese section to try all the free samples. The store is gorgeously vibrant but also very expensive. Perhaps I should frequent it more often in the hopes of meeting a wealthy single guy who loves to cook with fresh produce.

We picked up a basketful of things and headed home to put dinner together.

For starters, we shared cheeses and antipasto.

I absolutely love the pradera that I almost
climaxed over in the store when I was gobbling up the free sample cubes.

Sicilian green olives and cheese stuffed peppers.
I love the gorgeous, vibrant green colour of these olives.

What dinner with the Pelles would be complete without Mr Pelle's homemade sausage?

This Tasmanian brie smelt like the scrubbed brie that I bought a while back. A pungent odour that I haven't acquired a taste for. Smelly smelly socks!

Teresa melted this brie in the microwave and we dipped bread into it.
It's a salty cheese and quite strong.

I love trying new cheeses! I think we overdid it tonight though - so much cheese was left over!

Teresa made Pappardelle Pomodoro with a
simple, rich tomato sauce and fresh pasta from the Boatshed Markets.

For dessert, I helped dice up some tinned jackfruit and Teresa made jackfruit ice cream. It was a success!

Mamma mia! What a huge day of eating!
