I had some friends over for a quiet dinner tonight.

I bought some BBQ pork and roast pork from
Four Seasons Roasting Duck Restaurant in Northbridge.
I was rather disappointed with the amount of bones present in the roast pork and the very clumsy way in which they chopped it. The pieces were chopped in large uneven pieces. I don't think I will be going back there again.
I have never made wantan soup with noodles before, so I was excited to try with one of my new utensils I bought from my recent trip to Bangkok.

I bought some wantan noodles and loosened each individual bundle.

I blanched the noodles using the stainless steel scoop.

Meanwhile, my helpful friends made the wantans.

After an errand in the city, I caught up with Jocelyn for lunch. She took me to the Enex100 food court on Hay Street.

Seafood Curry Laksa - $11.50
As expected, the food is rather overpriced but my laksa was good! It took alot of will power to stop myself from drinking all the soup in the bowl.
I stopped by Jocelyn's place on the way home from work and she had gotten some takeaway for my supper.

Spicy Vietnamese Beef Noodles

I was delighted to see they included a huge chunk of delicious liver.

Lots of fresh mint to garnish.

Today’s lunch consisted of last night’s leftover roast chicken that I tore off the bone and threw into a lunchbox with some baby cos, avocado and a boiled egg.
For a taste of things to come, I had seafood laksa for dinner tonight. I can’t wait till my holiday to Singapore! Lots of soupy noodle dishes are waiting for me!Friday 28th January 2011

We slaved away at our friend Long's newly built houses today to help him apply coats of primer to the walls. He rewarded us well by taking us out for lunch for a break.

Being a Vietnamese restaurant, you can probably guess what I ordered!

Bun Bo Hue!
Back at home in the evening, I took out the ingredients that I had prepared last night and made soup for dinner.

I think I deserve to relax for the rest of the night!
For the past week, I have been undertaking a personal challenge in the kitchen. Essentially on my own at home (peace at last!), I have set the challenge of trying to clear out the freezer. I am not going to buy any meat but instead go through the freezer and thaw out what I can find. I can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, but I want to keep new purchases to a minimum and also try to make use of what I have in the pantry.

Dinner
Sazzy's Bun Bo Hue
Dad was home tonight and I also made him some. It's very rare that either Mum or Dad eat my cooking, so I did feel a sense of pride when Dad asked if there was anymore after he polished off his bowl.
I found a dozen oysters in the freezer last night and thawed them out overnight. Since they've been frozen for quite some time, I'm not going to eat them 'el naturale'. I noticed that one of the oysters had a second oyster formed on its shell. It was closed and so I didn't think of shucking it open. Instead, I rinsed the grit from each oyster.
A few moments later, I noticed that this second oyster on the shell had opened up and there was indeed a small oyster in it! Score! I got a baker's dozen of oysters! What a lovely surprise =)
I found some bacon in the freezer and sliced it up. I added tomato sauce, bbq sauce and worcestershire sauce and spooned a bit of this mixture onto each oyster. I baked them in the oven for between five to ten minutes.

Supper
Oysters Kilpatrick

I polished them all off.

Harissa Chicken Salad
I used the leftover harissa chicken I made the other night, lettuce, cherry tomatoes and asparagus with dressing made from the pan juices after roasting the chicken. We are going to have to get Ian to make us more of his harissa paste! It's so versatile!
Tonight I busied myself cleaning, deseeding and stuffing these green chillies with fish paste. They will go into the freezer and be readily available for noodle soups and steamboat.
