Today before work I got outside in the garden and finally remembered to take some photos.

My Herb Garden
The coriander has just taken off!! The mizuna and horned mustard lettuces are also growing really well. I try to use them often to encourage regrowth. Between the chives and coriander you can see a little mint plant. It started off as a stem that I broke off from the main plant and stuck into the soil. It initially grew two little leaves and now it's pretty much a whole plant with lots of leaves!

This is the second batch of broccolini I'm growing. The first batch I have already transplanted to one of the garden beds. My basil, rosemary and sage are not thriving, but I think once the weather warms up they'll pick up.

My Strawberries
I bought two different types of strawberry plants from Bunnings. One has white flowers and the other pink. You can start to see little strawberry fruits growing. My mum used to grow strawberries in our garden. She had them in the garden bed with the black tarp to keep the strawberries from getting dirty in the soil. These plants I bought are ok to grow in their pots so I think I will keep them as they are.

My Tomatoes
Wah - all my roma tomatoes that I grew from seeds have died except the ones that I transplanted to give to friends. I think it just got too cold and being on the night shift, I would put them outside when there was sun during the day and then in the evenings no one would bring them in (despite me asking my mum and sisters to bring them in for me). I've managed to salvage my cherry tomato seedlings (the ones in the black seedling tray) but I will have to transplant those very soon to pots. The larger plants are grosse lisse (they look like the regular shaped tomatoes) tomatoes that I bought as seedlings from Bunnings and they're doing well. I think what they need is just some sustained warm weather. They're all looking a little pale and yellowed. The leaves are turning brown from the cold weather. Hand in there guys!

My Carrots
These are my baby carrots that I bought as seedlings from Bunnings. I tried to spread them out but I may have to transplant them, depending on what my research turns up. The foliage is looking really nice, green and healthy so hopefully what's beneath the soil is just as well.

Garden Bed 1
This is the first bed I started with. On the left side I've got the rocket that Mr and Mrs Pelle gave me from her garden. From the bottom, I've got two staggered rows of beetroot, two rows of spinach (caterpillar ravaged), and two rows of mixed lettuce.

Every so often I try to put down fresh mulch around the plants to help keep moisture in the soil and to also try to stop weeds from growing. I have to get out there and remove weeds as they just keep growing back so fast. It seems a neverending battle right now.

Garden Bed 2
At the bottom, I've got four rows of garlic that I planted from bulbs that Mr and Mrs Pelle gave me from their garden. I don't know how long it takes to grow a whole garlic from one clove, but I'm very excited to pull one up soon! In the centre are two rows of baby cos that growing really well right now. They were being attacked by caterpillars not long ago but once I bought some bug spray, they've healed and are thriving. At the back are my capsicums that I got as seedlings from Bunnings. They don't seem to have grown at all. They're slowly just dying I think. Perhaps I will move them into small pots and try to get them to recover and plant something else there instead.

Garden Bed 3
Christina dug out this garden bed, probably with the intention that Mum used it. Since a week went by and she hadn't, I used it. I was going to use that area anways. At the bottom I've got another three rows of garlic that I planted almost a month after the ones I planted in bed 2. You can't really see them, but there is a single row of leeks that I planted from seedlings. I was worried they wouldn't survive the transplant but we had about a week of rain and they're doing quite well now.

Next is a row of celery grown from seedlings. They appear to be doing fine too. Behind them are the first batch of broccolini that I transplanted from a pot once I grew them up from seedlings. I'm going to have to go out and mulch these plants and get some fertiliser on them.

Ok, so that's my gardening so far! I'm planning on getting out there in the garden during my days off next week. Perhaps I will take a trip to Bunnings to check out some other plants I can get. I'm soooo looking forward to the warmer months when I can bathe in my 'fruits of labour'. No doubt my friends will be getting some gifts of vegetables too!

At work I had a salad with the leftover chicken from last night. I have been craving and eating junk food this past week. Must be my body's way of telling me it needs an energy boost. I found a huge slice of hedgehog slice on the kitchen table when I woke up today. I don't know if it was Christina who bought it because she remembered me mentioning that I would like some, or whether my mum brought it home from work. One thing was sure - it was all mine!
