Steamed Whole Salmon & Tabbouleh
Benoit's mum gave me heaps of fresh parsley from her garden to take home so I asked that Mum made some tabbouleh for me. She makes it every day at work, so she brought home some burgul and made me some while I got ready for work.
I sat down to have lunch and had the tabbouleh with some salmon that Mum had steamed last night. She bought a whole one so you can see its wing - wait...salmon don't have wings...it's a fin!!
After work, I raced home, showered and quickly made dinner/supper. I felt like beef tonight. I actually would love a big juicy scotch steak. I haven't eaten red meat for a while. Maybe that's what I'm craving. I will need to have a steak on my days off.
Bee Hoon Soup with Beef
I made the soup base using half a cube of beef stock, soy sauce and water. I add the stalk parts of the wombok first so that while the water boils, the sweetness from the wombok goes into the soup.
Once boiling, I added some frozen beef balls for a minute or so and removed them to slice them up. I added bee hoon (that I had presoaked in water) and the leafy parts of the wombok. After only a minute of simmering, I turned the heat off and poured everything into my large soup bowl. I garnished with bean sprouts, fresh mint leaves and the sliced beef balls.
I hoped that I wouldn't be interrupted by the pager tonight. I don't like to rush when I eat.
As I sit at work and blog about this, my stomach is grumbling and my mouth is watering. I can't wait to get home to eat!
