[0930hrs] I headed out for the day – starting with breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant on the floor level. I was really disappointed at the range – honestly, the one word that first came to mind to describe it is CRAP. Utter crap. They had someone manning the ‘egg’ station, where I asked for two eggs sunny side up. There was a warmer with a few types of dim sim. They had a few small tables with food warmers – sausages, baked beans, rice porridge, mashed potato and steamed rice were amongst them. There was some fruit, tubs of yoghurt in a large bowl of ice, cereals and juice.
I ladled myself a bowl of the rice porridge – I think it had squid in it. I also got a side dish of mashed potato with gravy and a glass of guava juice. I managed to find a table under an umbrella but it didn’t in any way protect me from the sweltering heat. Needless to say after several mouthfuls I got up and left.
At the reception, I asked them to call a taxi for me and I went to wait outside. I took a few gorgeous photos.
[1130hrs]I took the MRT to Novena Square where I met up with David and we did some grocery shopping. Today’s plan was for the family to go to David’s house for lunch and so the kids could open their Christmas presents that they didn’t get to do on Christmas Day.
[1200hrs] As we were going through the checkout, Richard happened to be walking past and spotted us. What a coincidence! Ivy and Zhi Heng were also with him so we went to have a cup of tea together.
[1245hrs] Zhi Heng came with me in David’s car and we stopped by to pick up some fried rice and chicken for lunch. Zhi Heng and I waited in the car. Zhi Heng’s fascinated with fans – we spent about ten minutes just looking at the fans in the restaurant right beside the car, discussing why only one out of the four was working.
[1330hrs] David had some bak gua for us to snack on back at his place. The first time I’ve eaten this during my trip!
Kim Kee and Marshall bought a new little ‘jungle gym’ for Lucas, which we set up on the couch. Zhi Heng and I sat beside the couch watching Lucas enjoying the bright new toys. He’s starting to grab and hold onto things with his hands.
[1430hrs] We finally got around to opening Zhi Heng’s presents.
[1445hrs] Our late lunch was ready. We’d bought some salmon from the supermarket, which I baked in the oven with some olive oil, lemon juice, seasalt and cracked pepper. I used the rest of the vegetables that were left in David’s fridge from his dinner party the other night (as well as some newly acquired vegetables) and roasted them in the oven with some olive oil and honey. We also had the chicken and fried rice that David bought. A nice, light lunch.
After lunch, Richard, Zhi Heng and I went swimming downstairs.
[1800hrs] Richard, Ivy and Zhi Heng came back to my hotel with me so that we could go swimming in the hotel pool. Set amongst lush, green vegetation, it looked like paradise.
[2030hrs] Zhi Heng stayed with me in the hotel room while Ivy and Richard went out to seek food. They returned with takeaway from Coastes.

Getting late, Ivy and Richard took Zhi Heng with a bit of resistance. The little cutie was having so much fun he didn’t want to go home.
I veged out and watched TV. David said he would swing by to pick me up later to go out for drinks. Initially we were to meet at 10pm but he was running late so by 11pm I was so ready for bed but convinced myself that it was a Saturday night and having only a few more days of holidays left, I should make the most of it.
[2330hrs] David and I stepped out at the St James Power Station. Our aim for the night was to make it to every single bar in the place. Well, I’m proud to say we did it!
[0300hrs] We finished up at Movida and went for supper before heading home. We had some beansprouts and a really yummy soup with lotus roots.
[0445hrs] I took a taxi back to the hotel and as I was walking through the carpark, I noticed this sign and thought it was rather amusing.
Got back to my hotel room, showered and ordered room service.
