Singapore Day 29 - my holiday draws to an end

[0845hrs] I woke up early and found some leftovers for breakfast.

Aunty's soup and crab nuggets

[0930hrs] Kim Kee, Marshall and I helped Lucas open his Christmas gifts. Yes, we kept putting it off because each time we were together, Lucas would be asleep and we wanted to take photos of him with his presents.

I bought him a set of little cute books that hopefully Kim Kee or Marshall can read to him. Jocelyn got him a little one-piece jumpsuit with a matching koala soft toy and hat that has 'ears'. He looks so cute in it!

Man...just holding him felt so right to me. I can't wait for a few of my friends to have kids...I will be the first to volunteer for babysitting duties! I know babies are alot of hard work, but as each year passes, I feel my resolve to one day have children strengthen. Being single doesn't deter me. If anything, it is making me more determined to throw myself into travel so that I can come home to Perth and set myself up so that I can be in a position to be able to bring up a baby on my own. Well, not exactly on my own. If I were to be a single mum, I am going to require so much support from my family and friends. Everyone is going to have to return all those hours of babysitting I will have done for them!

I had to eventually pry myself away from the baby to make my way to final stop before the airport.

[1100hrs] A trip to Singapore would not be complete without a stop at my favourite day spa.

Spa Botanica
on Sentosa Island

The taxi ride to the day spa got me really stressed out. Already on a tight schedule because I was due at the airport that afternoon, I was really anxious when the taxi driver crossed over the bridge onto Sentosa Island and asked me for directions. It was deja vu - Marissa, Teresa and I had had a taxi driver that got lost while driving us back to our hotel (the Sentosa Resort & Spa) when we were there in February 2008. It had already taken almost twice as long for this taxi driver to get me there (it only took about 30 minutes when I was driven to the Siloso Beach Resort) as he was more cautious on the road. Sentosa is only a small island, so it would be hard to get lost for long, so we just followed some street signs and I spotted the sign for Spa Botanica with relief.

As we pulled up at the entrance, I was met with the most beautiful sight. The building is beautiful enough as it is, but right infront of the door, on the top step, was one of their resident peacocks, looking right at me as if it were waiting to greet me. I could have cried! I wish I had time to catch this picture perfect moment, but I was too busy lugging my things out of the car. I'd brought my luggage with me because I was going straight to the airport after my treatment. Still, as soon as I stepped out of the car, I could feel all my anxieties and stress just melt away and I was squealing inside with excitement.

The staff are so demure, polite and attentive. They were very happy to store my luggage in a safe place for me while I was there.
It was nice to recognise some of the faces. I got changed and went to sit by the pool with a cup of their 'tea of the day' while I waited for my therapist to get me. Because I'd arrived a bit late, they gave me some time to unwind.

There are no words that can completely describe the sense of tranquility, calm and other-worldliness of this place.

I was having the Traveller's Retreat spa package today. Of the options, I chose a vichy shower and the foot massage.

For lunch...
wrap with roasted vegetables
apple & cucumber tropical juice

After lunch, I shuffled back to the section of the day spa that's reserved for women only and went for a dip in the pool. I felt like I was just drifting around in a happy daze, sipping fruity lukewarm tea with not a care in the world.

All refreshed, reinvigorated and just glowing! This is always the perfect way to end a holiday before heading home to reality.

[1500hrs] At Changi Airport, David, Mum and Aunty came to see me off. We went to get a quick bite to eat. My last meal.

roast duck noodles

David and Aunty shared wantan noodles

[1830]Shortly after taking off, I opted to pay AUD$10.00 to use their onflight entertainment system. I watched the Dark Knight.

Check out this...they serve individual bottles of wine with an upturned plastic glass that screws over the top of the bottle like a lid. Ingenious!

onflight dinner - AUD$15.00
spaghetti with roasted vegetables

My holiday has come to its end. However, I have my next holiday to look forward to - a three week cruise to Hawaii! I love when I have another holiday planned because it gives me something to look forward to, rather than a horizon of bleakness. It makes having to go to work and put up with all the crap there bearable. A means to an end.

What a great vacay! One of my best spa massage experiences came about when a friend told me about the Vichy Massage Table. The spa I went to had one and needless to say it was like going the extra mile to make me feel like I got my moneys worth.
