Singapore Day 23

[0930hrs] Breakfast!

bread rolls

It's Christmas Eve today! It feels like an ordinary day to me but it's going to be busy. David has made reservations for a couple of rooms at the new Crowne Plaza Hotel at Changi Airport, Terminal 3. The idea was to celebrate the Christmas in style and comfort.

[1330hrs] Jocelyn's flying back home to Perth today. She got all packed and then spent some time holding Lucas - under the watchful eye of my mum of course.

Afterwards, Mum busied herself in the kitchen cooking. I couldn't be bothered going out to get lunch so I had some.

leftover Chinese vegetables
beef with ginger
beef with bitter gourd
leftover curry sauce

[1400hrs]I almost forgot about this juice I had bought last week to.

lettuce, kiwi & lime

I know...it doesn't really sound like it would taste nice but the bottle was cute and I thought I'd give it a try.

Verdict - yuck! It tasted mostly like lettuce with a hint of kiwi.

[1500hrs] We had to take two taxis to the airport in order to be able to take Jocelyn's luggage with us. I travelled in the first taxi with Jocelyn. She fell asleep during the drive while I looked out through the rain and thought about how great it was not to be at work. My thoughts wandered back home to my friends. What were they all doing today for Christmas Eve? I was imagining them gathering around a table of food, carving a turkey and enjoying each others company. I thought of how busy Teresa and Marissa must be trying to get their Christmas Eve dinner together with family. I miss them all.

[1530hrs] We arrived at the hotel and Zhi Heng led us up to our rooms. We had two adjoining rooms on the seventh floor. The rooms are spacious and luxurious! The bathrooms have a wall of glass with a screen you can pull down for privacy. Beautiful!

The glass window overlooks the airport and runways where you can see planes taking off and landing all day long. Outside our hotel rooms, the view of the hotel's pool is spectacular. It doesn't feel like we're at the airport - they've created a gorgeous tranquil atmosphere that's perfect for a retreat while in transit inbetween flights.

After exploring our new rooms, I went down to the basement level with Richard and Zhi Heng to get some snacks for everyone. I bought sweet and savoury bread rolls from the Crystal Jade bakery.

[1700hrs] David, Aunty, Mum and I went to look around the hotel. The pool is absolutely beautifully designed. There's a gym, function centre and even a day spa!

We eventually ended up at the food court in the basement level and had a cup of tea and a bite to eat.

[1930hrs]David and I had predinner drinks back at the hotel room while Zhi Heng had a bath. We had wanted to take him for a swim in the pool but it was raining heavily all afternoon. My cousin Kim Kee's husband, Marshall, brought us some potato chips covered in chocolate. What a strange combination! But it tasted quite yummy. Even Aunty and Mum agreed.

[2000hrs] We finally went downstairs for dinner.

Imperial Treasure

David ordered a banquet set for us. I'll try my best to list each course!

tofu & vegies for nibblies
roast duck
poached egg
crab meat soup
mushroom
prawns
fish
noodles (not pictured)

For dessert, there were these little dumplings - I think they were made from glutinous rice and coated in crushed peanuts. Inside was a runny bean paste. I took a bite and the inside filling started to dribble out, so I stuffed the rest into my mouth and struggled to chew it because it's pretty sticky.

can't talk with my mouth full!

[0000hrs] Just after midnight, when we managed to finally usher Mum and Aunty into the one hotel room, we popped open a bottle of champagne David had brought to toast Christmas. It was a beautiful drop!
