DAY FIFTEEN – AT SEA

This morning we we arrived at Christmas Island but it was not a stop for us to go onshore. We simply sailed close enough for a scenic view. This was at about 1000hrs so I decided to sleep in and caught a glimpse of it on the TV. There is a camera mounted at the front of the ship, and we can watch this footage live from the TV in our cabins. Yes, originally I had gotten confused and thought that our cruise was stopping at the Christmas Island in the Indian ocean. I was excited because I thought I was going to actually see the island where Dad is from. But no...there is another island by the same name - it was so-named by Captain Cook when he spotted it on Christmas Eve in 1777.

The water in the pool was as calm as the ocean.

I lazed by the pool with some passengers who frequent the Wheelhouse - Keith, Angela, Karen and Hayden. Keith was happy to lend me his Lonely Planet guide for Hawaii so that I could do some background reading and figure out what I wanted to do when I got there.

We’ve only got a few more nights onboard so I will have to be sure to make the effort to attend the formal dining, which means getting dressed up even though all I want to do is sit by the pool and watch the sunset.

Appetiser: crab salad

Entree: soup

Main: lamb

Before coming on holidays, I had logged onto the Dawn Princess website to enter some details about myself so that I could personalise my trip. I indicated that I would like to celebrate my birthday while on the cruise (even though it was a few weeks after the end of it). Tonight was the night they brought out a little birthday cake for me and several waitstaff surrounded our table to sing “Happy Birthday” to me. It was great!

After dinner went to the Vista Lounge to watch the Passenger Talent Show. Most of them sang or played a musical instrument and it made for a fun, entertaining night.

Later tonight, I went to watch Brad Stevens in the atrium, where I was joined by Barbara and her niece, who is travelling with her, Dee. Andy also eventually joined us too. Once the Brads finished their shows, they also had a few drinks with us – yes, all three Brads! I had them all tonight!

Tequila!

Once everyone had retired for the night, the four of us got up to our usual mischief. Brad #1 hopped up onto the piano tonight.

Brad #1 - who let the dogs out!? Woof woof woof woof

We went up onto the pool deck for a bite to eat. It was rather windy, so we decided to head up onto the higher decks at the front of the ship – I felt as if I was going to be blown right off the ship at any second. The wind was racing up my nose and it was so difficult to breathe!

Once again, I felt as if I were back home, hanging out with friends I’d known for years – just getting up to our usual antics. It’s sad to think that this holiday will soon be over and I may never see my new friends again.
