From the airport, we took a taxi straight to our hotel – the Rydges on Pitt Street. I was so excited that I would have liked to have just boarded the ship straight away. As it was, we have the next few days to do some sight-seeing in Sydney.
We left our luggage with the concierge and then walked around to find somewhere to have breakfast. We didn’t go far – the hotel is in a fantastic location that’s surrounded by a plethora of eateries. We were spoilt for choice! We finally settled on a little cafe around the corner.
After breakfast, we headed back to our hotel to see if they were able to give us an early check-in. Nope.
We went out and explored a bit. First stop - the Sydney Opera House.
We walked through some gardens and came across these odd stones that looked like remnants of some sort of building. There was no sign and the map we had wasn't useful in helping us to figure out where we were.
In the afternoon, we went back to the hotel to see if our rooms were ready. They had a room ready for Noel and Fleurette, but mine next door was not yet ready. I actually waited until 3pm (an hour past the guaranteed check-in time) until my room was ready. Not Happy Jan. They offered me a few free drinks. All I wanted was a shower!
Noel and I decided to go and grab some lunch. We decided on some sushi at one of the many Japanese eateries downstairs. We bought a set of various pieces of sashimi and sushi to share.

After settling into our rooms, we had a few drinks and then headed out to find dinner. We didn’t have to look very hard. We were bombarded with people handing us flyers to eat at their restaurants. We were enticed by one flyer in particular – a free drink at their VIP lounge. We looked on both sides of the flyer to find the catch, but there weren't any terms and conditions. Looked like a guaranteed free drink! We crossed the road into what resembled an RSL and found the VIP lounge at the far end near some pokie machines. Tacky! The bar was a little closet. We were only allowed the house pour beers on tap and house wines.
We ended up eating dinner there though – they offered a 250g Angus steak for only AUD$11!! It came with mash potato but that was it. We paid an extra $2 to get some peppercorn sauce. It was the best damn peppercorn sauce I’ve had. It was full of peppercorns and so so deliciously peppery!

Afterwards, we tried to find some entertainment. The salsa dancing in a nearby restaurant had not yet started, so we walked around searching for a karaoke bar. Despite seeing several on our walk earlier in the day, we just couldn’t seem to find one now. We found a really cool bar that offered girls a free glass of champers – how could we resist!?? There was also the lure of a gorgeous musician on the guitar. From now on, I will think of him whenever I hear the song by Jason M’raz. That cheeky humour and gorgeous smile!
We spent the next few hours hunting for somewhere we could practice our karaoke, but alas! We couldn’t seem to find any of the places we’d come across earlier during the day! We must have walked around in circles, passing the same places at least twice. Giving up, we went back to the hotel for a few drinks. When I finally left Noel and Fleurette’s room, I decided to go out to find some supper. Just downstairs and around the corner, I found a place that made Japanese ramen. Just what I felt like!
With my ramen in hand, I headed back to the hotel and could have cried. There was a karaoke place right across the street from our hotel!!

After eating about half of this, I finally made my way over to the bed and nodded off.
