Today I played chauffeur to Benoit and Dau. We went to the pet shop to get some salt water for his new tank and then Benoit asked us to start putting together a set of drawers from IKEA. I love putting furniture together from IKEA! I get that sense of accomplishment when I'm done and can admire my handiwork. Being a guy, Dau didn't want to even look at the instructions booklet, so I looked at the pictures and told him what to do. We worked really well as a team! I think I did pretty well as a project manager. I can imagine many people would end up in a quarrel over something as simple as putting IKEA furniture together, but we had fun and even a bit of a laugh when Benoit caught us trying to cover up a tiny stray from the instructions.

We couldn't have done this without a coat hanger.

Poor Dau...the guy thought when we asked him to come out with us today that we'd be kicking back at some pub with a few beers. Not lugging around salt water and spending two hours nailing a set of drawers together. hee hee

the cheap pump Benoit bought
Vibration Pump - touch the perfection...

Afterwards, I had to rush home and get ready to be picked up for dinner. The occasion? My birthday in a few days time.

HIMALI GURKHA

This is apparently the only restaurant in Perth that offers Nepalese cuisine. It was one of the places that Shallen shortlisted for me to choose from. I actually was enticed by the unusual name. It had me at Gurkha.

We had to wait a while before we could finally get the attention of one of the waitstaff to take our order. The dish I most wanted - the okra - was not available! Not happy Jan.

So...here are the dishes we ordered to share.

dumplings with dipping sauce

spinach sauteed with ginger, garlic & other spices

King prawns cooked in traditional Nepalese style,
with spinach, garlic & spices

panfried cubed chicken in garlic, ginger & herbs

mild goat curry in Nepalese sauce

eggplant

saffron pilau

The menu's descriptions of the dishes weren't that fantastic. Everything was served in 'traditional style' or 'Nepalese sauce'. Well duh!

There was another wait for our food and I was trying to refrain from sipping too much wine before getting some food in my stomach. We were drinking the wine that Kong brought.

McLaren Vale 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc & Shiraz

What a wonderful drop!

When the food finally arrived, it was fantastic! Very similar to Indian cuisine, but less coconut milk and the flavours milder.

After dinner, we went across the road to get some Gelares.

Mocha Choc Chip

After dinner, we swung past my place so I could change into my PJ's and then we all regrouped at Ling and Shallen's house. They had a cake for me and sang 'happy birthday'!

We spent the rest of the night playing a few rounds of Balderdash and opening the bottle of wine I bought for $50 during one of our weekends in Margaret River.

Flying Fish 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon

Good times.
