Today was such a beautiful day, I spent most of the afternoon outside pottering about in the garden. When I went outside to check on my plants before heading off to buy some sheep manure with Mum, I saw in shock horror that Simba had managed to push in part of the fencing and dig up one of my tomato plants! There was soil everywhere and my poor tomato plant was lying on its side, roots bare, feeling limp in my hand as I picked it up. I replanted it, watered it carefully and gave Simba a telling off. Hopefully it will make it through. *fingers crossed*
I also bought another 'self-watering' planter box to add to my growing collection of herbs. I planted the dill and pineapple sage in it. Below are my other four planter boxes that my herb garden mainly consists of:
Box 2: horned honey mustard, mizuna lettuce
Box 3: coriander, garlic chives, chives
Box 4: thyme, oregano, sage
The marjoram I bought had started growing crazy, even when it was still in the seedling tray, so I decided to plant that in the edge of the garden bed where I've transplanted all my tomatos, capsicums and chilli plants.
I finally got around to doing some weeding in the lawn in the backyard. It's Sir Walter lawn that I chose and even there are some weeds popping up, they're really easy to remove and for this being the first time I've weeded the lawn since I had it put in, it's fantastic! It really does deter weed growth. It needs a bit of mowing though, the grass is starting to seed and get long in certain patches. I'll need to get some fertiliser for it before summer kicks in.
After a fantastic day outside in the garden having accomplished alot of work, I finally headed inside to make dinner. Since I had prepared the lamb last night, all that needed to be done was dice some vegetables to roast along with it. I decided on potato, pumpkin and carrots. Drizzle a bit of olive oil and some fresh marjoram from the garden, and into the oven. I diced the vegetables smaller than I usually do so that they wouldn't take as long to cook.
Time for a drink while waiting for dinner to cook! I had bought some kiwi nectar while grocery shopping today so felt like using that. I mixed some vodka with the kiwi nectar, tasted it and decided it wasn't sweet enough. I added some apple juice I found in the fridge and it tasted much better. Garnish with some fresh mandarin slices and blueberries.
After dinner, I had to make something to take in to work tomorrow for Eileen's birthday morning tea. I got out the spinach and pinenut sausages I bought from Lenards and squeezed out the sausage filling into a bowl. I cut up a few sheets of Antoniou's filo pastry into smaller squared and rolled the sausage filling up in the pastry to make little mini sausage rolls. When I used to work at Lenards, I used to bring some of the spinach and pinenut sausage mix home and we'd make our own sausage rolls using Puff pastry. Yum! I buttered the little rolls and then sprinkled some mixed herbs over them - into the oven until they get that delicious golden brown colour.
I have nights where I feel like doing something hands-on instead of sitting infront of the computer or TV. Tonight I decided to finally get my shoes in order. Earlier this year I bought a storage unit from IKEA to put in our 'foyer' at the front door to store our shoes in so that they would be out of sight and therefore not making a mess being in plain view on a shoe rack by the door. Despite my best efforts, my sisters and Mum still throw their shoes around higgledy-piggledy anywhere and there seems to be an endless amount of sand drifting in with them. *sigh*
Anyhow, I bought some clear plastic shoe boxes not long ago and tonight I finally put them to use. I was amused that because I have small feet (size 5) I was able to store two pairs of shoes in each box - heehee. I could fit perhaps up to four pairs depending on the heel, I reckon!
