Diary of a House-Sitter: DAY ONE

This morning I dropped my friends off at the airport and after a failed attempt to sneak past the reception at the Qantas Lounge, I drove into the city to take care of some errands. I tried a bit of clothes shopping but gave up after finding a couple of tops and a dress. I hate clothes shopping because I can't find anything that fits!

My friends have gone to Japan, so I felt like indulging in a bit of Japanese cuisine for lunch. I eventually made my way to Jaws Kaiten Sushi in the Hay Street Mall, where I was greeted with an authentic Japanese spoken greeting when I came in through the door. I was shown to a seat at the central bar style counter with the rotating display of food.

I eagerly eyed the dishes as they rattled past me and quickly spotted one of my favourites.

Unagi Nigiri

I had a quick look in the menu and saw that they had a jellyfish dish! I must have really been looking hard for it amongst the dishes going past me because one of the waitresses came to ask me what I was looking for. I told her and she asked one of the kitchen staff for a serve and I was grinning as he handed me a plate with delicious looking jellyfish on a bed of rice, wrapped in seaweed.

Jellyfish Ghunkan

Next, I picked up a dish with flying fish roe. Yum! I love the juicy little balls of flavour.

Tobiko Ghunkan

At this point, I remembered one of my other favourites - the octopus balls! Being a warm dish, I waves a waitress over so that I could order it off the menu. They must have been about to cook them anyway because pretty soon after I ordered, they brought out trays of freshly deep fried tempura to plate up, then my octopus balls!

Takoyaki

Sooo...it turned out that all my plates were the brown ones - $4.90 each. I guess I have expensive taste hee hee.

After a very satisfying lunch, I went to Bunnings and ordered $120 worth of brick pavers for the next stage of my backyard garden renovation. Back at home, I started to really feel unwell. I think I've caught the flu off my sister who was home sick from work yesterday.

In the evening, I went over to the house I was house-sitting and watched a bit of TV with a mug of miso soup (I didn't have any at Jaws earlier!). I had picked up some cold and flu tablets earlier during the day and took some before deciding I would feel better sleeping in my own bed tonight. I locked up, and drove home to crash.
