Hollywood Hospital Cafeteria - Lasagna & Salad - $5.50

Monday 4th July 2011

On the weekend I made Garlic & Chilli Prawns and kept the oil that was infused with all the delicious garlic, chilli and prawn flavours. Tonight I cooked some penne and tossed it through the oil with some prawns.

Divine.

Sunday 3rd July 2011

We went to Jocelyn's place for dinner tonight. She was making beef stew using her new slow cooker. It was a coincidence that I made beef stew last night and she was making it tonight.

It was good! She cooked it for seven hours and the meat was very tender.

She also made chocolate brownies. Very nice with a cup of coffee!

DINNER AT CHATEAU DE SAZ

I entertained a close group of friends tonight by throwing a four course dinner party.

With the wet and cold weather, I decided I needed warm, comforting food.

When I knew what I was going to cook, I typed up a menu and busied myself after work to get everything ready.

Shallen helped me set the table.

Appetiser
Antipasto & Charcuterie Platter

Entree
Garlic Prawns with Crusty Bread

I couldn't resist adding chilli flakes to make it garlic and chilli prawns! I've kept the oil that was left behind. It will be awesome to dip bread in or to even use to cook some pasta.

Main Course
Beef Stew served on a bed of mashed Sweet Potato & Pumpkin

I slow cooked the beef stew in my Le Creuset french oven for about two and a half hours. It went into the oven just before my guests arrived and was ready by the time it was ready to serve the main course.

Dessert
Apple & Pear Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream

I forgot that I had bought a carton of custard to serve with the crumble so I gave my guests the option of both. I had mine just with the warm custard.

We got through four courses, a bottle of sparkling, a few beers, four bottles of wine and a few rounds of tea and coffee.

First dinner party in my new house was an amazing success!

Friday 1st July 2011

I woke up early this morning to cook breakfast for myself before heading to work.

I sliced mushrooms, red capsicum and diced some onion.

Three eggs, some milk, water and a handful of mozzarella.

Served with some torn basil leaves.

Dinner
Instant Ramen - out of a pot

Yep, I don't have any soup bowls so I had to eat my noodles out of the pot that I cooked them in. It reminded me of the days in high school when I used to heat up a can of soup in a small pot and eat it straight from the pot infront of the computer.

I'm having a dinner party tomorrow and have to work during the day so I decided to make the dessert tonight.

Apple and pear crumble.

I used to make crumble often but not so much these days. It's a gorgeous dessert to eat warm with warm custard or ice cream.

I cooked peeled, sliced Granny Smiths and pears with some brown sugar and cloves until they were soft and poured them into a baking dish.

I made the crumble with plain flour, rolled oats and some butter that I kneaded together until it resembled bread crumbs. I poured the crumble mixture over the fruit and baked it in the oven at 180C for about twenty minutes.

I'll keep the crumble in the fridge overnight and reheat it in the oven tomorrow when it's time for dessert.

Tuesday 28th June 2011

I had friends over for an impromptu dinner tonight.

We made pizzas in the oven.

For dessert I made a mixed berry coulis to drizzle over some pikelets I bought from Woolworths and served with a dollop of thickened cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.

Monday 27th June 2011

I cooked on the stove for the first time today.

What did I make?

You guessed it...

Chicken and Pasta Soup

Onion, garlic, leek, carrots, celery, chilli, fresh grated pecorino - yum!

After work I was too tired to cook so I put together a few things, poured myself a glass of wine and sat down to flick through the junk mail.

Mum's roast pork, cucumber slices, dolmades and fresh asparagus.

Crackers with a spicy African dip.
