Well, another year...and more food!

Lunch
Instant Ramen with Fish, Bean Sprouts & Kang Kong

Dinner
Lambchops marinated in Garlic, Rosemary & Red Wine
Eggplant Parmagiana

The eggplant parmagiana was some of the leftovers from the one I made yesterday for the BBQ. Layers of eggplant, homemade Italian tomato sauce, Tasty cheese and mozzarella. Delish!

I was able to scrape out a bit of marrow from the bones in the lambchops. Mmm I love marrow.

Campari & Orange Juice

Supper
Homemade Chicken & Corn Soup

Lots of fresh spring onions!

I fly out to Singapore tomorrow night and I haven’t yet started packing yet.
Tuesday 5th January 2010

Hey everyone!

It's my third day in Singapore and I'm in an internet cafe just checking emails.

I'm in a shopping complex surrounded by beauty parlours so it's going to be a tough decision trying to decide who gets to pamper me and give me a manicure and pedicure today!

The hotel charges a ridiculous amount for wifi access, so I guess I will be updating my blog later in the week when I check out of the hotel and go to stay with my Aunty.

Till then, there's lots to do and lots to eat!

Signing out, Saz =P

Lunch
Instant Ramen with Seafood Dumplings & Kang Kong

Mum's been growing kangkong in the garden. Yum!

Tonight we're having a BBQ at Ling and Shallen's place to ring in the new year. We've all decided what we're each bringing so I went grocery shopping.

I have a jar of sundried tomatoes that I've used up, so I kept the remaining oil to use for something else. Usually I use the oil for pasta dishes. Today, I bought some plain fetta, chopped it up into cubes and marinated it in the jar with the oil. I also added some fresh thyme.

Fetta marinated in Sundried Tomato infused Olive Oil & fresh Thyme.

NEW YEARS EVE 2009

I arrived early to put together my platter there instead of having the meat and cheese sweat it out under gladwrap on the drive over.

While out getting groceries, I spotted some fresh figs! I've been waiting for them to come back into season so I immediately bought several. At Ling and Shallen's, we prepared them while waiting for everyone else to arrive.

Slit a cross into the fig from the top, being careful not to cut all the way through to the bottom. Put a bit of butter and a sage leaf into the centre of the fig through the cut. Wrap some thinly sliced pancetta around the fig. Bake for about ten minutes until the butter has melted.

When you have a mouthful of fig and some pancetta, you get the beautiful contrasting flavours of the saltiness from the pancetta and the sweetness from the fig. Delicious!

Food, glorious food!

I brought a few of the fruit liqueurs that I made for everyone to try. Mango and Raspberry. I'll have to post about the liqueurs later.

For dessert, Kong made an Apricot Cheesecake for us.

While everyone present declared how they love the base of a cheesecake better, I actually prefer the 'cheese' bit. It's weird since I prefer savoury.

We had soooo many leftovers!

We toasted the New Year in with a bottle of Italian sparkling that I found at home. I also put in each glass a hibiscus flower in syrup that I've been meaning to use for a while now, but kept forgetting.

So...wrapping up the year 2009.

A rather good year although it did appear to pass by rather quickly. The only real complaint I have for it is the problems that I've faced with entering the world of home ownership, but in a way it's sort of nice to think that I am seeing out the year without a huge debt over my head. That can wait until next year.

So Happy 2009 everyone, and here's to another great year in 2010.

Mum made sui mai and we all had some to snuffle our appetites before going out to dinner. It was Mum's 60th birthday yesterday.

YUKI JAPANESE RESTAURANT
Shop 7/113 Collins Road, Willetton

Fortunately I made a reservation because when we got there, the place was packed. I've been looking forward to eating here again, not only because of the good food, but also because I accidentally took the menu home with me last time I was here.

We ordered a few entrees but asked for them to come out altogether with our mains because we were eager to just get stuck into the food as soon as possible.

David: Salmon Teriyaki Bento Set C

Mum: Beef Udon

Myself: Unagi Bento Set C

I love getting the bento set C. It comes with a bit of everything - your choice of dish - i.e. beef teriyaki, chicken katsu, unagi, etc - and sides of salad, nori rolls, tempura, miso soup, rice, and a choice of gyoza or spring rolls. I can never finish them all though. I usually have the rest taken home in a doggy bag, or I get everyone else to help me polish them of.

I brought along a bottle of wine from my extensive cellar of sorts.

Clairault Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Jocelyn: White Truffle Ice Cream

This was delicious! Sorta like a giant Raffaelo chocolate made of ice cream.

Myself: Green Tea Ice Cream with Red Bean on the side

Yum! I love green tea ice cream.
